Holy Week 2026

Holy Week began on Sunday with a parade from the narthex, the back of the church, through the sanctuary, where we worship. It was great to see such a crowd parading around the sanctuary with palms waving, singing “All Glory, Laud, and Honor” - a classic for Palm Sunday. Later we sang “Ride On, Ride On in Majesty” - another favorite.

Palm Sunday is always an odd Sunday because we start with the joy of Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem, but them shift to the passion story, the story of Jesus death, that will come later in the week.

Pr. Hopgood skillfully walked us through this, contrasting the power of those in charge with the power of Jesus the King. He empashized, as he always does, God’s unconditional love and forgiveness for us, which will be poignantly brought to light in this Holy Week.

And we celebrated the most important meal of the week, the Lord’s Supper. All are welcome to the table!

Maundy Thursday

Even though we read the passion story on Palm Sunday, I find it so meaningful to come to Maundy Thursday and Good Friday services. It makes Easter all the more joyful and meaningful. On Maundy Thursday we each had the opportunity to to receive absolution. Pr. Hopgood had some wonderful imagery at the end of his sermon of us playing in God’s garden and being scooped up in His arms and loved and forgiven and cared for. We also shared in the Lord’s Supper. The end of the service included the stripping of the altar.

Good Friday

You can see how bare the sanctuary was. We had 3 people play the different parts in the crucifixion story. Toward the end of the service our assisting minister carried the cross down the aisle.
